Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing problems viewing HACOLP maps or using any of the features, we suggest the following:

1. Enable utilities.
Your browser must have Javascript and window pop-ups enabled for the HACOLP mapping site to operate properly. See your browser's Help utility or web sites for assistance in setting these up.
2. Delete temporary files.
We recommend that you delete your browser's temporary internet files (empty your browser's cache) before you begin using the site or if you run into problems. The best option is to clear the cache after every browser session. See browser-specific instructions below.
3. Right-size map window.
The HACOLP mapping site is designed for a minimum browser window of 800x600 pixels, and a maximum of 1280x720. On large monitors make your browser window smaller, or you will get an error message. On small monitors maximize the window and increase the effective area by collapsing the toolbars at the top of the browser.

Loading map pages
Users with slower connections or computers may have trouble initially accessing map pages. If you do:

1. Be patient!
On first usage the page elements have to download to your computer, which may take a couple of minutes depending on your connection.
2. Reload if necessary.
If you see the ‘Retrieving map ...' sign in the map window but no map appears, try reloading the map by returning to the Chapter page and clicking the Interactive map again.
3. Do not use Back or Refresh buttons.
Using your browser's Back or Refresh buttons will give you an error message. Instead, reload as in #2.

Error message: *** Warning: Potential browser window size problem; using 600x800 - See Help->Troubleshooting
If when you try to load an interactive map page you get this error message, click on the OK, and the map should redraw at 600 by 800 pixels. This may be smaller than the map frame in your browser window.
Error message: Unable to display MapService. (Error 515) Requested image is too big and cannot be created or invalid height or width were used
If when you try to load an interactive map page you get this error message, restart your Browser, empty the cache and reload the page.

Either of these messages indicates that the browser you are using is having a problem resizing the map to fit the browser window. It can usually be avoided by the instructions above: delete temporary files, maximize your browser window, and avoid changing browser window size during a session. This problem may occur more frequently using Safari than other browsers, and on Macintosh computers. If this problem occurs repeatedly on your computer, it may be best to change to a different browser if possible.
