O'Brien, Through the Rocky Mountains, a Pass on the Canadian Highway, watercolour, 1887

Professional painters - those who made a living by painting - often required institutional patronage. Lucius R. O'Brien and J.A. Fraser were commissioned by William Van Horne to make views for the CPR.
