Territorial Timeline: 1999-2001

1999 Nunavut created
Nunavut becomes Canada's third territory by the Nunavut Act and the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act, which had both been passed in 1993.

2001 Newfoundland and Labrador renamed
In April 1999, the Newfoundland House of Assembly unanimously adopts a resolution authorizing the federal government to change the name of the province to Newfoundland and Labrador. This is done by an Amendment to the Constitution on December 6, 2001.
