Norton map, 1760

Moses Norton, a HBC trader at Fort Churchill, questioned Indians about their homelands when they came to trade. On the basis of their accounts and sketch maps he drafted a remarkably comprehensive map of northern Canada. The map shown here, a re-oriented and amended version of the original, suggests the identity of many geographical features.
